Interpreting

Interpreting involves translating the words of a person speaking one language into the language of the people, or person, listening. This is done orally, usually at conferences or meetings where people speaking different languages are present.

There are three main types of conference interpreting:

Simultaneous
This is used most often at conferences. Interpreters work in pairs and usually sit in a booth where they can both hear and see the speaker. The interpretation takes place in real time, so the interpreter must have the ability to listen, analyse and reproduce what is being said in a matter of seconds.

Consecutive
In consecutive interpretation one person speaks for a certain length of time, the interpreter listens and takesnotes, and then repeats it to the audience in their language. This type of interpreting is usually used when, in the course of an event, there will only be one or two short speeches in a language different from that of the participants.

Business interpreting
This is ideal for small meetings, as it combines the two forms of interpreting. In this case, the interpreter whispers into the ear of the listener simultaneously (a technique called chuchotage) and then interprets consecutively whenever the listener wants to respond to the speaker.

Whatever type of interpreting is needed, the most important thing is preparation. I always prepare ahead in order to be ready for the industry and subject matter that will be discussed.

I can travel to wherever your conference or meeting is located, worldwide. And if your event needs additional interpreters who work in other languages I can find people who meet your needs.

In these challenging times, when due to health concerns is not possible to hold face-to-face meetings or conferences, it is still possible to do simultaneous interpreting through specialised platforms, I have ample experience in several of them and would be happy to help you.
